Remove fake Facebook recommendations from your Page

When a rival salon, a stranger or a customer in a deposit dispute posts a false “not recommended” on your Hong Kong business Page, NetClearer reports it to Meta under the Community Standards. You sign an authorisation, we never touch your login, work starts within 48 hours, and each review costs HK$176, no extra fees.

What Meta will take down, and what it will not

Facebook calls reviews “recommendations”: a visitor answers yes or no and adds a comment. Meta does not remove a recommendation because it is negative or unfair. It removes content that breaks its Community Standards, and the Page owner cannot delete a recommendation directly. The grounds we work with are:

  • Spam and inauthentic accounts: a cluster of new profiles with no friends or photos, all posting “not recommended” on the same evening.
  • Harassment and bullying: comments that insult a named therapist, chef or shop assistant rather than describing the service.
  • Hate speech: attacks on staff for their origin, religion, gender or disability.
  • Private information: a staff member’s mobile number, home estate or HKID number posted in the comment.
  • Off-topic content: political rants, adverts for another shop, or text about a different business with a similar name.
  • Threats and blackmail: “refund my package or I post ten more of these”.

A real customer who disliked a haircut, a late delivery or a price rise may post a harsh recommendation. That stays, and we tell you so in the free assessment.

How Hong Kong businesses get hit on Facebook

For beauty salons in Mong Kok, tutoring centres in Tai Koo, renovation contractors and home-based bakers, the Facebook Page often is the shop window. Three patterns come up again and again. A competitor opens nearby and a wave of one-line “not recommended” posts follows within days. A customer who bought a prepaid beauty or fitness package and wants the unused balance back uses the Page as leverage. Or a post in a district Facebook group sends readers to your Page to pile on, many of them never customers.

When the attack spreads beyond reviews, for example a fake Page copying your shop name, see fake account removal and our Facebook removal page.

What you can do yourself first, at no cost

As Page admin you can report a recommendation yourself: open it, click the three dots, choose report and pick the closest reason. Reply calmly in public to genuine complaints; Hong Kong customers read the owner’s answer as much as the review. Your Page settings also let you switch off recommendations entirely, but that hides your good reviews too. If one report is refused, a second one sent with the same vague reason rarely changes the outcome.

What NetClearer adds

  1. Written assessment, free. Send the links through the contact form. We say which posts break a rule, which do not, and the price.
  2. Signed authorisation. The business signs a short letter allowing us to act. No password, no admin role, no access to Meta Business Suite.
  3. Targeted reports. We file each one under the precise Community Standard, with dated screenshots and, for spam waves, the pattern across accounts.
  4. Follow-up and report. We track every request until Meta decides and tell you the outcome in writing.

Price, timing and limits

HK$176 per review, HK$476 for 3, HK$1,312 for 10, fixed price, no extra fees, paid by card through Stripe after the free assessment. Work starts within 48 hours of payment; Meta makes the final decision. Hong Kong has no specific rule on fake reviews, so removal runs on Meta’s policies. A false post by a competitor may be defamatory: NetClearer is not a law firm, so for a claim consult a Hong Kong solicitor. Compare with Google review removal and the full review removal service.

Frequently asked questions

Will the person who posted know we reported them?

No. Meta does not tell users who reported their content, and we never message the reviewer, their friends or the Facebook group where the post was shared. Your staff and other customers are not contacted either. Discretion matters in a small district where everyone knows each other’s shop.

Can you remove a recommendation written in Cantonese?

Yes. Meta reviews content in Chinese as well as English. In our report we give a short English summary of the passage that breaks the rule, so the moderator sees the problem quickly. Written Cantonese slang does not change the grounds: harassment, spam or private data are judged the same way.

Do you need to become an admin of our Page?

No. We never ask for your Facebook login or a role on the Page. The business signs an authorisation, and we file the reports ourselves as your representative. This keeps your Page secure and means no outside party can post or change settings in your name.

What if Meta keeps the recommendation?

Meta has the last word. If new evidence appears, for instance proof that the account belongs to a competitor’s employee, we can file once more on that ground. If the post is a genuine opinion, we tell you plainly and can suggest a short, factual public reply instead.

Tell us what’s happening. We’ll take it from here.

Free, confidential assessment in writing. Send the links through the form: we reply within 24 hours with the route, the timeline and the fixed HK$ price.
