Remove Tripadvisor reviews that break its guidelines

NetClearer reports Tripadvisor reviews of your Hong Kong hotel, restaurant or tour that break its review guidelines: no first-hand visit, a rival in disguise, threats for a refund, personal details. We act on your signed authorisation, never your login. Work starts within 48 hours, HK$176 per review, fixed price, no extra fees.

Tripadvisor’s own grounds for removal

Tripadvisor’s review guidelines (Trust and Safety pages, tripadvisor.com) ask for first-hand, relevant and unbiased reviews, written within a year of the visit. It removes a review when it breaks those rules or when its fraud team finds something improper, not when the rating is low. The grounds we use for Hong Kong clients:

  • No first-hand experience: a review of a dinner that never happened, or of a hotel the writer only walked past on Nathan Road.
  • Biased or manipulative: a review from a competing hotel’s staff, a former manager, or a supplier in a dispute with you.
  • Blackmail: a guest who demanded an upgrade, a free night or a refund in exchange for not posting.
  • Out of date: an account of a stay more than twelve months earlier.
  • Irrelevant or abusive content: remarks about a neighbouring bar, discrimination, threats or insults aimed at named staff.
  • Personal information: names, room numbers or contact details of staff or other guests.

A two-star review that complains about a small room in Causeway Bay, a slow lift or harbour views blocked by a new tower is honest feedback. It stays, and we say so before you pay anything.

Where Hong Kong properties are exposed

Hotels around Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay compete for the same travellers street by street, and a ranking drop of a few places on Tripadvisor changes direct bookings. Small guesthouses in older Kowloon buildings, rooftop bars in Central, dim sum restaurants and harbour-cruise operators face the same pressure. Patterns we see: a burst of one-star reviews from accounts with a single contribution, written days after a rival opens; reviews describing a restaurant on the wrong floor of the same building; and guests who threaten a review at check-out over a disputed minibar or deposit charge.

Many of the same visitors also post on Booking.com, Agoda and Google Maps, so we check each platform under its own rules.

The free route through the Management Center

Claiming your listing is free. In the Management Center you can reply to any review in a management response and report a review that you think breaks the guidelines. If a guest threatens a bad review before posting, Tripadvisor lets owners report the threat in advance, which makes a later removal request stronger. Keep the threat in writing: email, booking message or a note signed by the front-desk staff.

What we do for your property

  1. Free written assessment of every link you send through the contact form: which reviews break a guideline, which do not, and the price.
  2. Signed authorisation from the business. We never ask for your Tripadvisor password and are never added as a listing user.
  3. A documented report: the exact guideline, the sentence that breaks it, and evidence such as reservation records showing no booking under that name (guest data redacted).
  4. Follow-up until Tripadvisor decides, then a short written outcome per review.

Prices and honest limits

HK$176 per review, HK$476 for 3, HK$1,312 for 10. Fixed price, no extra fees, card payment through Stripe; work starts within 48 hours. Tripadvisor decides, and no one can promise a result. Hong Kong has no specific fake-review law, so the route is Tripadvisor’s policy. A rival’s false review may also be defamatory: NetClearer is not a law firm, so consult a Hong Kong solicitor for any claim. See the review removal service and pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Can you remove a review because the guest exaggerated?

Usually not. Tripadvisor keeps first-hand opinions even when they are one-sided. We look for a real guideline breach: no stay on record, a link to a competitor, a threat, personal data or abusive content. If none applies, we tell you and suggest a short, factual management response instead.

How do you prove a reviewer never stayed with us?

You give us a reservation search for the name, dates and room type mentioned, with other guests’ data removed. We present it to Tripadvisor with the review text. Tripadvisor can also check the account’s own history, which often shows the same pattern on nearby properties.

Will guests or staff know about the report?

No. Tripadvisor does not disclose who reported a review. We never contact the reviewer, your guests or your team, and we do not publish anything about your property. Only the people you choose inside the business know that NetClearer is involved.

Tell us what’s happening. We’ll take it from here.

Free, confidential assessment in writing. Send the links through the form: we reply within 24 hours with the route, the timeline and the fixed HK$ price.
