Remove Tripadvisor reviews that break Tripadvisor’s guidelines
NetClearer reports Tripadvisor reviews of your Malaysian hotel, restaurant, tour or attraction that break its guidelines: no first-hand experience, a competitor or ex-employee in disguise, a blackmail attempt, private information or abuse. We act with your signed authorisation, never your owner login. RM92 per review, fixed price, no extra fees; work starts within 48 hours.

What Tripadvisor’s guidelines rule out
Unlike booking sites, Tripadvisor lets anyone write a review without a booking, which is why it gets more fake and biased content. Its review posting guidelines require:
- First-hand experience: no quotes from the news or social media, and no reviews posted only because a property was in the news or online.
- A review within one year of the visit.
- Relevance: the review must describe the experience, not a dispute with a neighbour or a political opinion.
- No bias: no reviews by owners, staff, former staff, competitors, or anyone offered something in return.
- No private information or threats, and no hate speech or explicit language.
A detailed, angry account of a genuine bad meal or stay meets these rules and stays online.
Viral pile-ons and Malaysian businesses
Tripadvisor covers much more than hotels: nasi kandar restaurants in Penang, island-hopping operators in Langkawi, dive centres in Semporna, Mount Kinabalu guides, rooftop bars in Kuala Lumpur and attractions in Melaka. When a TikTok or Facebook post about one of them goes viral, people who have never visited sometimes add one-star reviews within hours.
Those reviews fail the first-hand rule. Tripadvisor can also put a temporary hold on new reviews when a business attracts attention for reasons unrelated to real visits. Reporting the pile-on early, with links to the viral post that triggered it, gives the best chance of action. For the post itself, see viral post removal.
Blackmail: report the threat before the review
Threatening a business with a bad review to obtain a discount, an upgrade or a refund is against Tripadvisor’s rules. Owners can report the threat itself in the Management Center, ideally before any review is posted, with the guest’s details and the messages. If the review is already online, it is reported as a review that breaks the guidelines, with the same evidence attached.
The free routes are the Management Center’s review reporting and a public management response. Reviews of businesses are not covered by the Online Safety Act 2025 or MCMC’s harmful-content process. If someone demands money from you with threats, that is a matter for the police, in person at a police station; we can prepare the timeline and screenshots for that report.
How we work on a Tripadvisor review
- Free assessment. Send the review links through the contact form. We check each one against the guidelines and tell you which have a real chance.
- Signed authorisation. You authorise NetClearer in writing to act for the business. We never ask for your Tripadvisor login, are never added as a manager on the listing, and you file nothing yourself.
- Report to Tripadvisor. We contact Tripadvisor directly, cite the guideline, quote the text and attach evidence: booking records showing no such visit, proof the writer works for a competitor, or the threat messages.
- Follow-up and outcome. We track the case and send you a short report per review.
Other platforms for the same business
Hotels usually face the same guest on several sites: see Agoda reviews, Booking.com reviews and Trip.com reviews. Restaurants and tour operators are often hit hardest on Google reviews.
Price and limits
RM92 per review, RM248 for 3, RM683 for 10. Fixed price, no extra fees, card payment through Stripe after the free assessment; work starts within 48 hours. Tripadvisor decides on every report. We never write, buy or incentivise reviews, and NetClearer is not a law firm. See the review removal page and pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Can a competitor’s fake review be proven?
Often it can be shown rather than proven: a visit dated when you were closed, details that match another business, or a profile that only reviews rivals in your area. We gather those signs into one report. Tripadvisor also runs its own checks on reviewer accounts.
A guest threatened us before checking out. What should we do?
Keep the messages, note the date and booking, and report the threat to Tripadvisor at once, before a review appears. Do not give the discount. Send us the details and we handle the report, then watch the listing for a review from that guest.
Will the reviewer be told who reported the review?
No. We never contact reviewers, and the request is handled between NetClearer and Tripadvisor. If you prefer to answer publicly, we suggest a short, factual management response without any personal information about the guest.
Do you need our Management Center access?
No. We never ask for passwords and are never added as a manager. A signed authorisation from the business is enough for us to contact Tripadvisor. Keep owner access yourself; it is also where you post your responses.
