How Instagram harm looks in Malaysia

Instagram reaches about 16 million Malaysians, and it is still growing (DataReportal, Digital 2026). Its audience is younger and more image-led than Facebook’s, so the problems we see are about photos: who took them, who reposted them and who pretends to be you with them.

  • Photo theft accounts that copy a woman’s selfies to run a fake profile, sell products or lure men into scams.
  • Exposé and confession pages for a campus, a workplace or a town, posting anonymous claims with a name and face.
  • Close Friends stories screen-recorded and reposted publicly, often after a break-up.
  • Intimate images sent in private and later posted, or AI-edited images built from ordinary pictures.
  • Clone business accounts that copy a home baker’s or boutique’s feed to take orders.

Instagram and the Online Safety Act 2025

MCMC lists Instagram among the platforms deemed registered from 1 January 2026, as it has more than eight million Malaysian users. A report you file in the app therefore falls under the Online Safety Act: Meta must acknowledge it within one hour and assess it within 12 hours, and harmful content such as harassment, obscene material or scams must be made inaccessible within short deadlines. You may also complain to MCMC at aduan.mcmc.gov.my, and threats or extortion belong at a police station.

Impersonation itself is not one of the Act’s categories. A copycat account that only reuses your photos is handled under Instagram’s own Community Guidelines, which forbid pretending to be someone else; we use the Act when the account also harasses, scams or sexualises you.

How we work on Instagram

  1. Free assessment. Send the profile or post links (tap the three dots, then Copy link) by the contact form or Messenger. Private accounts are fine: a screenshot with the username is enough to start.
  2. Mapping. We check for tagged reposts, the same photos on other accounts, Facebook copies and Google Images results.
  3. Reports. We file each report in the right category with evidence that the reviewer can check quickly. Where the form must come from you, such as an ID check, we show you which form to use, and your document goes straight to Meta.
  4. Follow-up. We appeal wrong refusals, file the MCMC complaint when the content fits the Act, and confirm each removal. The 20 link pack and above include monitoring for new copies.

Price and confidentiality

One link costs RM133, fixed price, no extra fees, and work starts within 48 hours. Several accounts or posts are cheaper in a pack: 3 links RM316, 10 links RM912, 20 links RM1,600 with monitoring (pricing). We never ask for your Instagram password and never message the account owner, your family or your employer.

Frequently asked questions

The account copying me is private. Can it still be removed?

Yes. Instagram reviews impersonation reports on private accounts too. We need the username and any screenshot showing your photos or name on it, and, when Instagram asks, your ID check. Friends who can see the account can also report it from the profile.

Someone reposted my Close Friends story. Is that against the rules?

It can be. A reposted story that exposes intimate content, private details or is used to harass you breaks Instagram’s rules, and your own photos may also be protected by copyright. Ordinary content reposted without abuse is harder; we tell you which ground fits before you pay.

Will the account owner find out who reported them?

No. Instagram keeps reporters anonymous for most reports, and we never contact the account owner. Impersonation and copyright forms are reviewed by Meta, and if a form would share your name with the other side, we explain that first and you decide.

How long does Instagram take?

In-app reports must be acknowledged within one hour and assessed within 12 hours under the Online Safety Act. Impersonation forms with ID checks can take a few days. We start within 48 hours of your order and follow each case until Meta decides.

Tell us what’s happening. We’ll take it from here.

Free, confidential assessment. Send the links through the form: we reply within 24 hours with the route and the fixed RM price.
