Remove forum posts about you: Lowyat, Cari and Reddit

A thread on Lowyat, Cari or Reddit names you, your company or your family, and it comes up when people search your name? NetClearer asks the moderators and the operator to delete or edit it, handles the quoted replies and copies, then gets Google to update. From RM133 per link, fixed price, work starts within 48 hours.

Why forum threads are so persistent

Forum threads age badly but rank well. A Kopitiam thread on Lowyat, a gossip board on Cari in Malay or Chinese, or a post on r/malaysia can sit on the first page of Google for your name for years, long after everyone in the discussion has moved on.

Typical situations: a buyer calling someone a scammer in a buy-and-sell thread with their phone number, former staff naming a manager in a company thread, a relationship dispute with screenshots of private chats, or a “do you know this person” post with photos and the name of a taman.

Forums sit outside the Online Safety Act

The Online Safety Act 2025 binds only the large licensed platforms, such as TikTok, Facebook and YouTube. Lowyat and Cari are not among them, and Reddit is not one of the platforms MCMC has named. There is no 12-hour clock here: removal depends on each forum’s own rules, its moderators and, above them, the company that runs it.

Two things still help. Section 24 of the Act lets any user report harmful content to MCMC, including on unlicensed sites. And section 114A of the Evidence Act 1950 presumes that the owner, host or administrator of a site is the publisher of what appears on it, which gives Malaysian forum operators a concrete reason to take a documented complaint seriously.

What we ask a forum to do

Deleting the whole thread is not always realistic, and it is not always necessary. We ask for the smallest change that solves your problem, which moderators accept more easily.

  • Delete the post that names you, or the whole thread if it exists only to target you
  • Edit out your name, IC number, phone, address or photos while leaving the discussion
  • Handle the quotes: on forums, every reply that quotes a post copies its text, so each quoting reply has to be edited too
  • Lock the thread so it stops attracting new replies
  • Remove copies on scraper sites that republish forum threads

Then Google

When a thread is edited or deleted, Google can keep showing the old title and snippet until it crawls the page again. We use Google’s tool for outdated content to speed that up. Where a result still shows your IC number, phone, home address or bank details, we file a request under Google’s personal-information policies; Google decides under its own rules, as there is no right to be forgotten in Malaysian law.

How we work

  1. Free assessment. Send the thread links through the contact form or Messenger; we reply with what can be done and a fixed price.
  2. Evidence first. We capture the thread, quoting replies and copies with dates.
  3. Requests to moderators and operators, written in English or Bahasa Melayu, citing the forum’s own rules. We use our own accounts, never yours.
  4. Google refresh and personal-information requests once the pages change.
  5. Follow-up until each request is answered, then a check for reposts.

Price and related services

RM133 per link, fixed price, no extra fees: a thread with copies usually fits the 3-link pack at RM316 or the 10-link pack at RM912. Work starts within 48 hours. All prices.

If the thread accuses you of something false, read defamatory posts; if it publishes your address or IC number, see doxxing removal. This service belongs to news, viral posts and forums.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just ask the person who posted it to delete it?

You can, and sometimes it works. It can also backfire: the author may post your message, or the thread may grow. Even when the author deletes a post, the quoting replies keep its text. Going through moderators avoids contact with the author and deals with the quotes.

Do you need my forum login?

No. We never ask for passwords. Reports go to the moderators and operators from our side, as your representative, with the evidence attached. If you posted in the thread yourself, we may suggest you edit your own replies, which you do from your own account.

The thread is ten years old. Is it worth it?

Old threads are often easier: the discussion is dead, the information is outdated and moderators have little reason to keep personal details online. The value is in the Google result under your name, which an employer or client may still see today.

Will the forum users find out I complained?

Moderators do not usually announce who reported a post, and we ask for quiet edits rather than public statements. We never post in the thread, never contact the author and never tell your employer or family. The aim is that the thread simply stops showing your details.

Tell us what’s happening. We’ll take it from here.

Free, confidential assessment. Send the links through the form: we reply within 24 hours with the route and the fixed RM price.
