Remove fake Google reviews from your Hong Kong business listing

Google Maps is where many Hong Kong customers now leave their complaints. When a review is fake, from a rival, abusive or exposes a staff member’s details, Google can remove it. NetClearer builds the evidence and files the request for your business under your signed authorisation, never with your login. HK$176 per review, no extra fees.

Why Google reviews matter more in Hong Kong now

Google handles over 91% of searches in Hong Kong (StatCounter, June 2026), and its Maps listing is often the first thing a customer sees. In March 2026, local tech site unwire.hk reported diners moving their negative reviews from OpenRice to Google after OpenRice asked a reviewer to confirm that critical claims were truthful. For restaurants, clinics and shops, the Google rating has become the one to watch.

What Google removes

  • Spam and fake content: no real experience behind the review, repeated text, accounts created for the purpose.
  • Off-topic: content unrelated to your business, a complaint about the building management, a social or news debate.
  • Conflict of interest: reviews by competitors, current or former staff, or about one’s own business.
  • Harassment and hate: threats, insults directed at named staff, attacks based on protected characteristics.
  • Personal information: a staff member’s mobile number, home address or HKID number.

A one-star review saying the dim sum was cold or the queue was long is a genuine opinion. Google keeps it, and so do we: we will not file a request for it.

How we file the request

  1. Free assessment. You send the review links. We check each one against Google’s rules and tell you in writing which have a real ground.
  2. Authorisation. You sign a letter authorising NetClearer to act for your business. We never ask for your Google password and do not need to be added as a manager.
  3. Evidence. Booking or POS records showing no visit, shared phrasing across accounts, posting times, links to a competitor, screenshots of threats.
  4. Report. Google reviews are reported in the Business Profile through the Report option; we prepare and submit each report under the matching category, through the routes Google offers to people acting for a business.
  5. Appeal and follow-up. When a report is refused, Google’s Reviews management tool allows an appeal for eligible reviews. We prepare it and track the decision.

Patterns we see on Hong Kong listings

  • Bursts of one-star reviews after a complaint thread on LIHKG or a Facebook group, from people who never visited.
  • Wrong-branch reviews: a complaint about the Mong Kok outlet posted on the Causeway Bay listing.
  • Ex-employee reviews naming a manager or describing internal disputes.
  • Clinic reviews quoting a patient’s details or naming a nurse alongside personal information.
  • Reviews with a demand: a series of bad ratings followed by a message offering to stop for payment or a free meal.

If someone demands payment

Do not pay and do not negotiate. Keep every message with the sender’s details and report the demand to the police in person. We file the reports with Google for every review in the wave, with the demand attached as evidence.

Price and timing

HK$176 per review, HK$476 for 3, HK$1,312 for 10, fixed price, no extra fees, paid by card through Stripe. Work starts within 48 hours. Google decides, often within days, sometimes longer for appeals. Restaurants should also see OpenRice review removal; all platforms are on our fake review removal page.

Frequently asked questions

Does the reviewer know the review was reported?

Your report is not shown on your listing. Google decides what it tells the author of a removed review, who may simply notice that it has gone or receive a notice that it breached a policy. We never contact reviewers and never reply on your listing on your behalf.

Can I just report it myself?

Yes, for free, from your Business Profile. Many owners do, and many reports are refused because the category does not match the review or there is no evidence. We choose the right ground, document it, and handle the appeal when the first answer is negative.

Will my rating go up?

Your rating is recalculated from the reviews that remain, so removing fake one-star reviews usually raises it, but we cannot predict by how much. We never add positive reviews: fake praise breaks Google’s rules and may breach the Trade Descriptions Ordinance.

A former employee reviewed us. Can it go?

Reviews by current or former staff fall under Google’s conflict-of-interest rule. We need something that links the review to the person, such as their name in your staff records or details only an insider would know. Genuine customer reviews from the same period stay online.

Tell us what’s happening. We’ll take it from here.

Free, confidential assessment in writing. Send the links through the form: we reply within 24 hours with the route, the timeline and the fixed HK$ price.
